Detail of Trip

We have self-catering accommodation booked in Onich for up to 9/12 paddlers (sharing rooms & depending on double bed occupancy) at the end of June/start of July. Onich is close to Glencoe on the West coast of Scotland, about 10 miles SW of Fort William, at the junction of Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven. This position allows for either sheltered water paddling along the sea lochs or more open sea paddling (in the Lismore/Oban area or Ardtoe, or Arisaig coastal areas), dependent upon what the group wants or the weather dictates. We will aim to lock/tie up kayaks at beach walking distance from the house, so that we don’t have to drive everyday.

We plan to do day trips from the base in Onich (such as paddling to Fort William and back, perhaps to Kinlochleven & back ) and depending on group’s preference an option to do an overnight (wildcamp) paddle.

Who is this trip for?

This is a perfect trip for paddlers with limited experience on the sea, looking to extend their skills and gain more sea experience in the company of others in a similar position. Depending on the make up of the group -paddlers with more sea experience will have the opportunity to do more challenging trips also.

Paddlers MUST be current members of British Canoeing during this trip.

This trip is categorised as grade B, which means you need to have completed the Paddle UK Explore Award and been on at least two CKC paddles in 2024. In addition you must have demonstrated an assisted rescue in 2024.

(Guidance on Gradings – Trip and Session Guidelines « Chelsea Kayak Club)

If you are able – you are encouraged to join the coaching weekend 19-21 April to update your skills for this trip. We plan to be self guided so all paddlers need to have some awareness of how to be a useful/safe member of a group.
