Detail of Trip: A summer day trip in Chichester Habour starting from West Itchenor – where it is possible to hire sea kayaks from Fluid Adventures for CKC members who have Discover award or above. Safe paddling inside the harbour, so limited sea state or swell likely. This trip is a good sea trip for people who have not yet been on the sea and recently got the Explore award, or maybe have done your Discover and not yet managed to do the Explore but have been paddling on the Thames or elsewhere so have some further experience and paddle fitness.

This trip is designed so that paddlers can be independent of needing club kayaks to be transported on roof racks and we will hire from an independent provider, at additional cost.
Travel :
If there are CKC members who want to join this trip & have cars able to give lifts, and roofracks able to carry their own boats or club boats – this is welcome but not necessary. Sharing of cars is encouraged so limiting the number of cars going.
If travelling independently – aim to be on Bus 53 leaving from near Chichester station to Shipton Green & then walk 36minutes.
Plan: Meet West Itchenor 10am & hire kayaks from Fluid Adventures. Launch from W Itchenor 10.30am to explore either Bosham channel or going to W Wittering – depending on wind. (we will travel initially partly against or across the tide initially.)
Rest ~11.15am if needed perhaps back at W Itchenor for 10min
Leave West Itchenor ~11.30 – now heading to Fishbourne (~6km)
Aim to get to Fishbourne by 12.30m – stop for snack/lunch ~30min
Return to West Itchenor & finish trip ~2pm & return kayaks. This trip is within 4 hour hire window.
Find ice cream or pub before heading home!
You will need to take a change of clothing which are dry and also bring packed lunch and drinks.
Timings: On the Water: 10:15, planning to be off the water around 14:00.
Tidal Planning: HW 13:10 & LW is 18:10 – spring tides & tidal range is 5m
Communications: will by Club CKC Community What’s App group for the signed up paddlers.
Cost: If CKC paddlers can offer lifts then the club has a process of calculating travel costs to be shared amongst all the participants. This covers the cost of petrol and a percentage for wear and tear. Estimated cost is £20 (based on two sharing a car).

Sometimes there is a £7 harbour fee to pay.
Maximum number of people excluding lead is 6 people. The minimum number of people is 3 including the leader.
