Detail of Trip
This is late afternoon paddle from a beach at Littlehampton to a beach near Selsey. We will not be going around Selsey Bill on this trip. The route follows the coastline, but has limited places to stop. The aim is to reach Selsey for a long break (maybe ice cream) before conducting the return leg.
Grade: C, that is Sea Kayak Award level or equivalent experience. Guidance on gradings – Trip and Session Guidelines « Chelsea Kayak Club. Remember the club provides all the kit needed for this trip (eg buoyancy aid, paddle, spray deck and cags), as well as boats.
We plan to launch about 13:00 and be back at the launch site at about 18:30. Estimated distance is 18 km each way.
As the trip is a sea crossing it essential paddlers are able to maintain a good speed and a straight line against potential flow and/or wind, that they listen and follow leaders instructions and are practiced at being able to get out of their boat to self rescue and assist in rescues when needed. Paddlers should be prepared to stay in their boats for 2-2.5 hours each way.
All trips can only go ahead if the conditions of sea and weather permit and this can only be assessed in the few days before the day of the trip. There will be a WhatsApp group set up for those going and an on-line meeting on the Wednesday before the trip. The trip is also dependent upon being able to move and recover the appropriate number of kayaks to the trip start point.
