Notice to Mariners - Upper Thames

Surf Practice, Bracklesham Beach, West Sussex

Bracklesham Bay Beach | Bracklesham bay, Beach, Uk beaches

This is trip for a few hours of play in some surf – IF there is some, at Bracklesham Beach (what 3 words witty.zoom.apps) on Saturday 25th October 2025. A surfing session is often an end of season trip for CKC.

As this beach is on the east end of the English Channel surf waves cannot be guaranteed but this beach sometimes has them and it is our closest place for this. The waves, if there waes, are never very big. The optimum time for going is an hour after low tide and an hour before high tide.

A decision will be made and posted to those on the list at 12 pm Thursday 23rd October if the session will go ahead or not.

It is a B grade. There will not be any coaches. If there are paddlers who have some experience then maybe they can advise with tips. This a ‘ Challenge by Choice’ trip. You are likely to capsize if inexperienced but it is a really great learning experience in managing your boat. You will be expected to land yourself, empty your boat and get going again on your own. There will be some group support if needed.

If you want to ring me to discuss further then give me a call directly. 07712051119

The water is now getting colder water and air temperature as well, so the correct gear is advised. (ideally dry suit but if not wet suit leggings (not full wet suit as difficult to paddle in) with several layers of rash vests and Cagoule. As I said one is likely to get wet! As well as correct warm clothing and hot drinks once out of the water at the end of the session.

Time on Water at Bracklesham is 9.15 am and off by 1.15pm . then lunch somewhere warm and snug!

Also, as with all our trips it will rely on number of cars and roof racks available to carry boats. If the logistics are not possible then it will  not take place.

The trip is graded B and above.

Dates: Saturday 25th October 2026.

Liza is organising.

Food and Drink : There is a good cafe / restaurant on the beach to have lunch in after the session.

Costs:  Travel, Petrol /wear and tear of vehicle carrying your boat and parking costs.

Please register your interest below asap and by October 18th so we can consider logistics of boats and kit. It is about a two hour drive there and back from Kew Bridge.

Please contact Liza Coghill lizaeasmon@yahoo.co.uk if you have any questions.
