Detail of Trip
This is a day paddle from Lepe Country Park New Forest Area, across the Solent and along the North side of the Isle of Wight Eastwards. The route crosses the Solent and then follows the coastline passed Cowes, then paddling further East across Osborne Baby. To have lunch in a lovely pub at Wotton Creek. To return back to Lepe before Sunset. It is a committing paddle as a total of 32km without much tidal assistance as Neaps.
Grade: C, that is Sea Kayak Award level or equivalent experience. Guidance on gradings – Trip and Session Guidelines « Chelsea Kayak Club. Also paddlers need to have a good level of fitness and stamina.
Timings: Meet at Lepe by 09.45 hrs. Time on Water 10.30 hours. Lunch at Wooton Creek for an hour’s lunch at 13.00 hrs. Re launching by 14.15 hrs then return. Estimated distance is 16km (8 nm) each way as we will have only a little tidal assistance (neaps). We will share fuel and parking costs for transporting kayaks.
All trips can only go ahead if the conditions of sea and weather permit and this can only be assessed in the few days before the day of the trip. There will be a WhatsApp group set up for those going. The trip is also dependent upon being able to move and recover the appropriate number of kayaks to the trip start point.
