We have recently secured some funding through the British Canoeing Club Coaching and Leadership Bursary. This funding will be used to help our members gain skills and qualifications that will greatly benefit the club and allow us to run additional trips and courses. The hope is that by encouraging more of our members to start their coaching and leadership journeys, we can take some pressure off our existing Thames Leaders and improve the overall skill level of the club.
We’re looking for individuals who are happy to volunteer their time by running trips on the Thames, and on the Sea. We’re also looking for members who would be happy to run introductory courses, such as the Discover, once suitably qualified. In order to qualify for this funding, you will need to meet all pre-requisites set out by British Canoeing for the relevant course. You will also need to demonstrate a clear commitment to Chelsea Kayak Club and a willingness to offer your time to help others within the club on an ongoing basis.
The funding we have available will not cover the full cost of the course. You will need to pay for 20% of the cost yourself, with the club and British Canoeing covering the rest. If you would like to apply for funding to take part in one (or more) of these courses, please send me an email to let me know. In your email, please let me know if you already meet the relevant pre-requisites, how you would use the qualification(s) to help the club and what you have done to help out in the past.
The decision whether or not to grant funding will be made by myself (the training officer) and Tudor (the treasurer), backed up by advice from the committee. Ultimately, we’re looking to use this bursary to improve the overall skill level of the club and seek to spend the money where it will have the most impact.
