North Kent; Herne Bay to Minnis Bay return: B grade. Saturday 4th May 2024 

General information

This is the page for signing up for upcoming trips with CKC. You must be a member to join these trips. Sign-up here is your request to go on this trip, you will need to be accepted by the group leader before you are confirmed. Typically trips will have a planning and logistics meeting a week or so beforehand to work out the details of kit, transportation and the float plan.

This is the sign up page for a day trip / kayak on the sea along a section of the North Kent Coast.  Note that by registering you are a candidate attendee and your place is not yet confirmed. The organisers will review your eligibility and confirm your place directly with you.

Detail of Trip

The launch place will be a seaside town called Herne Bay on the North Kent Coast – the section known as the Isle of Thanet.  The trip will involve paddling along for a couple of hours eastwards. We hope to take a break at Recluver tower if possible, (a landmark of Medieval towers on a pre-existing Roman fort. ) Reculver Towers and Roman Fort | English Heritage (english-heritage.org.uk)and continue to have a lunch break at a long sandy beach of Minnis Bay.  The Minnis Bay Bar & Brasserie in Birchington – Local area

After lunch we will then return to Herne bay Westwards when the tide has turned. 

The plan is to have fun for a lovely day out on the sparkly bobbing sea. 

(This trip will start late and end late. It is unlikely we will be back at Herne bay before 7.30 pm and therefore Kew Bridge around 10.30pm. )

Who is this trip for?

It is an B grade level paddle – designed specifically for members who have not yet had much or any paddling / kayaking experience on the sea. The club would like to encourage all novice members who are interested in developing their skills to get sea experience.  Ideally you will have done your Explore level training, however depending a little bit on other experiences you have you might be considered good to go on this trip.

Costs

Costs for this trip will include:

– Transport (eg train fares, and/or contribution to petrol costs of CKC members journeys transporting kayaks)
