Upcoming Trips

Pembrokeshire, Wales – Coached Weekend: 19-21 April 2024

General information

This is the page for signing up for upcoming trips with CKC. You must be a member to join these trips. Sign-up here is your request to go on this trip, you will need to be accepted by the group leader before you are confirmed. Typically trips will have a planning and logistics meeting a week or so beforehand to work out the details of kit, transportation and the float plan.

This is the sign up page for a coached weekend – when we will be paddling all day Sat 20 & Sun 21 April 2024.  (Sunday finishing ~4pm). Please register your interest for this coached weekend here. Note that by registering you are a candidate attendee and your place is not yet confirmed. The organisers will review your eligibility and confirm your place directly with you.

Detail of Trip

Most people will have had limited time to paddle over the Winter months and this weekend will enable paddlers to get ready for trips in the Spring and Summer by practicing paddling techniques, rock hopping and rescues with coaches based in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The location allows us to start off in protected waters and over the weekend move to more challenging conditions if desired. In previous years we have had two groups: an ‘intromediate’ group who may have had limited time on the sea, and a more advanced group looking to prepare themselves for the coming paddling trips.

Who is this trip for?

Intromediate:  This is a perfect trip for paddlers with limited experience on the sea, looking to extend their skills and gain more sea experience in the company of others in a similar position. It is possible to advise SKG coaches on Saturday if you would like them to assess your paddling & whether you are at a level to pass your next level up on Personal Performance awards – e.g. Sea Kayak Award. (If you pass – it is £10 for certificate!)

In addition paddlers with extensive sea experience will also benefit from this weekend, with coaching in advanced techniques, incident management and practicing in more challenging conditions in a safe and coached way. (SKG coaches are happy to arrange an assessment at a later date for those interested in Sea Kayak Leader award.)

Possible outdoors 16 hour 1st aid course We are exploring IF it is also possible to do the 16hr first aid course involving kayak scenarios (for situations where you are more than 15minutes from where an ambulance can reach you) perhaps before or after this weekend. If this is of interest – pls add your name in the 2nd sign-up section below.

This trip is categorised as grade B, which means you need to have completed the British Canoeing (BC) Explore Award and been on at least two paddles with CKC in 2024. (Guidance on Gradings – Trip and Session Guidelines « Chelsea Kayak Club)
